AeroPress
Brewing with an AeroPress
1. Prepare Your Coffee & Water
-
How:
-
Coffee: 14–16g (about 2 heaping AeroPress scoops).
-
Grind: Medium-fine (a little finer than drip, coarser than espresso).
-
Water: ~200ml at 85–92°C.
-
-
Why:
AeroPress is immersion brewing. Grind size + water temp decide how fast flavor is extracted. Too fine or too hot = bitter. Too coarse or too cool = weak, sour.
2. Assemble the AeroPress
-
How:
-
Insert a paper filter in the cap, rinse with hot water (removes papery taste, preheats brewer).
-
Two methods:
-
Standard: Place AeroPress on a cup, filter side down.
-
Inverted: Place plunger at the bottom, chamber upside down (prevents dripping, allows longer immersion).
-
-
-
Why:
-
Standard = simple, clean, quick.
-
Inverted = more control, richer cup.
-
3. Add Coffee & Water
-
How:
-
Add ground coffee.
-
Start timer → pour hot water up to ~200ml.
-
Stir gently 10–15 seconds.
-
-
Why:
Immersion means all grounds contact water equally → even extraction. Stirring helps prevent clumps and ensures consistency.
4. Steep
-
How: Let coffee steep 1:00–1:30 minutes (inverted) or 30–60 seconds (standard).
-
Why:
Longer steep = more body, stronger flavors. Shorter steep = brighter, cleaner cup.
5. Press
-
How:
-
Attach cap (if inverted, flip carefully).
-
Press gently over 20–30 seconds until you hear a hiss.
-
-
Why:
Slow pressure prevents bitterness and over-extraction. The hiss = no more water left to push through.
6. Taste & Adjust
-
How:
-
Drink as is (strong, espresso-like) or dilute with hot water (Americano style).
-
Try milk for a creamy brew.
-
-
Why:
AeroPress creates a concentrated coffee base. Adjusting with water or milk lets you shape strength and mouthfeel.
